Authentication

A Certificate of Authenticity is a document provided when a seller or owner of a product wants a guarantee that an item is authentic. A Certificate of Authenticity is generally offered on items such as sports memorabilia and autographs.

Unfortunately a Certificate of Authenticity can also be faked. Anyone can print up a realistic looking Certificate of Authenticity. Just because you get a Certificate of Authenticity does not mean its real.

When people want to buy signed memorabilia they need to do proper research and make sure the company they are dealing with is reputable, knowledgeable, and ethical.

It is very easy for someone to make a purchase from a memorabilia store and the dealer says" it came with a certificate so I thought it was good". Most dealers only care about making money and could care less if your product is actually real. They typically do this for a couple of years and then run off with your hard earned money.

In addition, many people believe that when they buy signed memorabilia through Charity Auctions that it must be real. Sorry folks but this is just not true! The majority of forged autographs I see in the market today are purchased online, via auctions, trade shows, and from dealers that really have no clue."60 Minutes" estimated over 85% of the autographs on E-Bay are fake!

*Only trust a Certificate of Authenticity that comes from a reputable company!

Steve Lipary has garnered the respect given to a longtime collector and dealer as seen by the numerous accolades he has received in the field of authentic autographed sports memorabilia. As a court appointed expert by the State of California Mr. Lipary is able to provide collectors with a written Certificate of Authenticity.

With many years of examining thousands of autographs we are very familiar with many different variations and the evolution of an individual's signature and can identify irregularities evident in a clubhouse, secretarial, or forged signature(s). We closely examine each and every component and letter of an autograph, paying close attention to characteristics such as signature flow, style, spontaneity, letter angle, etc.
